The Rooibos which we use in our products is a specific extract of the Rooibos plant (aspalathus linearis), from the Cederberg Cape fynbos region where it is indigenous. Popular in South Africa as a tea, due to it’s numerous health benefits, caffeine-free properties and delicious taste, the plant is grown and farmed in abundance in the region. Our Rooibos extract comes from a women’s community project in the area and is certified fair trade and organic.
The use of Rooibos in skincare is becoming increasingly popular due to the number of benefits it has on skin. The extremely high anti-oxidant properties of Rooibos, combined with high levels of naturally occurring zinc and Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), results in it delivering excellent free-radical scavenging properties. This results in an overall skin strengthening and protective effect. Rooibos has also been shown to be effective in treating skin conditions such as dryness, eczema, inflammation, psoriasis, pigmentation, sun damage and the effects of ageing on skin such as lines and wrinkles.
We use the ingredient in our Pure Beginnings, Organic Kids range. As babies grow into toddlers and older kids, they start going “out and about” a lot more and begin to explore the world around them. We want to make sure their skin is equipped and protected from the environment which includes pollution, the sun, and other environmental stresses. Rooibos works as a potent anti-oxidant protecting and strengthening their skin as well as soothing and healing it after a busy fun-filled day.
