When it comes down to it, synthetic fragrances, toxins and dangerous chemicals found in grocery store skincare products come cheap. Cheap and nasty as some like to call it. They are mass produced, cleverly marketed and have formulations which produce a desired result – but are they healthy and safe? Unfortunately not.

More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals (another nasty one to avoid completely!). These chemicals include: benzene derivatives, aldehydes, phthalates, and a number of other known toxins that are known to be involved in causing cancer, birth defects, nervous-system disorders and allergies — some of which are even mentioned on the EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) hazardous waste list.

Fragrances are hiding! This is the scary part: in the United States, manufacturers can legally hide hundreds of synthetic chemicals in the one word – ‘fragrance’- without revealing exactly what those ingredients are.

Avoid them at all cost! When it comes to our kids, we need to be extra careful. Studies by Dr. Philip J. Landrigan of the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center links fetal exposure to synthetic fragrances and phthalates with autism, ADHD and other neurological disorders.

At Pure Beginnings we use organic essential oils to give our products their beautiful natural fragrances. We never have, and never will include synthetic fragrances in any of our products. With the information given above, how could we?
