NEWBORN PRODUCT RECOMENDATIONS
Recommend for babies with extra sensitive skin which may arise from pre-existing allergies in the family, a premature or Caesarean delivery, or if your baby has been breastfed short-term.
Recommend for babies where there is no family history of allergies and skin sensitivities, or if the baby was delivered naturally and is exclusively breastfed.
BABY'S FIRST BATH
For baby’s first bath, and the first few weeks after birth, we recommend you use the Pure Beginnings Probiotic Baby Sensitive Cream Wash, followed by the Probiotic Baby Sensitive Body Cream. These products contain skin friendly probiotics and have been specifically designed to protect and nourish the most delicate and sensitive of skins. By choosing a product with probiotics, you are feeding the skin with beneficial bacteria that nurture the skin’s microflora from day one. The Probiotic Baby Sensitive range is also fragrance free and will not disrupt the bonding between mom and baby, allowing the baby to easily recognise his mother by her smell. The Probiotic Baby Sensitive range is recommended for longer use (at least the first 6 months) if there is any family history of allergies, problematic skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, if the baby is born via Caesarean, or if the mother is unable to breastfeed.
An alternative to the Probiotic Baby Sensitive range is our Soothing Baby range. For bathing, the Soothing Baby Wash & Shampoo is an all-in-one rosemary and geranium scented body wash and shampoo. It contains organic baobab extract, which helps to soothe and moisturise the skin. The ultra-mild plant-based surfactants are very gentle and will not strip the skin of its’ natural oils, leaving it clean but not dry, inflamed, or irritated. After bath use the Soothing Baby Body Lotion, which will leave your baby’s skin silky smooth and hydrated. The Soothing Baby range is perfectly safe to use from birth, however if you prefer using fragrance-free products, the Probiotic Baby Sensitive products is the ideal alternative for the first few weeks.
Nappy rash is most often caused when a baby’s sensitive skin comes into contact with urine and stool. Bum creams create a barrier that protects the skin and makes it easier to wipe clean. The meconium stool which babies pass in the first week after birth is sticky, and without a bum cream as a barrier it is more difficult to wipe clean than a normal baby stool. A natural, petrochemical free bum cream should be a staple in every nappy bag.
It is important to find a bum cream that not only protects your baby’s bum, but also allows it to breathe. Harsh petrochemicals, such as mineral oil and paraffin wax are commonly found in most conventional bum creams. We do not recommend the use of products containing these crude oil derivatives, as they can create a total barrier on the skin, effectively preventing it from releasing toxins. These toxins then become trapped on and beneath the skin’s surface, causing more irritation.
Our certified organic Baby Bum Cream is perfectly safe for every little bottom. It contains baobab extract as well as olive, lavender, and tea tree oil. Extremely effective at protecting against dampness and infection, it works wonders keeping your baby’s bum free from nappy rash.
Working hand in hand with bum cream are baby wipes. There are a wide range of wipes on the market, and since you will use a LOT of them, it is tempting to choose based on price. However not all wipes are created equal. Both the material the wipe is made from, and the lotion in which they are soaked, are important to consider.
Our Pure Beginnings wipes are soft and gentle and are made from 100% biodegradable plant fibre. They are soaked in a natural lotion of organic aloe extract and organic tea tree oil, which is known for its’ soothing, anti-bacterial and natural antiseptic properties.
The combination of our baby bum cream and gentle baby wipes is a must for all new moms and will go a long way in keeping your new baby happy and nappy rash free.
